The Coalition of Civil Society for Good Governance (CCSGG) has called on the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State, Chief Uche Nnaji, to address allegations of certificates forgery and bribery leveled against him.
In a press statement issued in Abuja on October 15, 2026, the Coalition, which comprises of over 52 members of civil society organisations committed to accountability and good governance, said its intervention has become imperative as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the Coalition, every candidate seeking to govern any state in Nigeria, Enugu State inclusive must submit to legitimate scrutiny concerning qualifications, integrity, public record and fitness for office.
UCHE NNAJI MUST PROVIDE VERIFIABLE ANSWERS:
The group noted that questions have been raised regarding the academic and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) credentials associated with the PDP governorship candidate. It also referenced reports that a publication of candidates by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) lists a secondary-school qualification against his name, while questions remain regarding university and NYSC documents previously attributed to him.
The Coalition stated that it will not determine criminal liability through a press conference, adding that where criminal allegations are already before a court, the constitutional presumption of innocence must be respected.
“Nevertheless, voters are entitled to request truthful, complete and independently verifiable information from anyone seeking executive authority,” the statement said.
The Coalition therefore called on Uche Nnaji to provide authenticated institutional records to answer the following:
- Was he awarded the university degree previously attributed to him?
- Did the National Youth Service Corps issue the certificate associated with his name?
- What qualifications did he submit to INEC for the 2027 governorship election?
- Why are the disputed documents reportedly absent from the qualifications now available for public scrutiny?
- What is his complete response to the forgery and bribery allegations reportedly pending before the court?
The group stressed that the existence of unresolved questions does not itself establish guilt, just as a party nomination does not place a candidate beyond scrutiny.
“A ballot is not a certificate of innocence, and silence is not an adequate answer to legitimate questions of public interest,” it said.
The Coalition added that candidates seeking public office must provide verifiable documents, not campaign slogans, so that the electorate can independently assess their character, competence and public record.
The statement was signed by Comrade Okpanachi Jacob, Principal Convener of CCSGG, and other leaders of affiliated organisations including Citizens for Good Governance, Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Initiative, Initiative for Good Governance and Justice, National Peace Ambassadors Network, Patriotic Anti-Corruption Women League of Nigeria, Nigerian Unemployed Youth Vanguard for National Rebirth, Initiative for Diplomatic Knowledge Transfer, Mass Movement for a New Nigeria, National Youth Movement for Credible Leadership, and Youths for National Rebirth Initiative.
