ENUGU WEST GENERAL ASSEMBLY (EWGA) -THE NEW ENUGU STATE OF OUR COLLECTIVE DREAMS: A CRY OF MARGINALIZATION AGAINST GREATER AWGU

1. It was our belief in equity, fairness, and justice that pushed us to support the zoning of the Enugu State Governorship seat 2023 to Enugu East Senatorial Zone.
2. In Enugu West Senatorial Zone, we share political positions among the two federal constituencies, namely Aninri/Awgu/Oji River Federal Constituency (Greater Awgu) and Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency (Agbaja).

1. Going by the voting demography, Greater Awgu gave Peter Mbah far greater votes in Enugu West compared to Agbaja votes put together for PDP in the 2023 Governorship Election in Enugu State, the records are there.
2. After the May 29 handover of our dear State leadership baton of the Peoples Democratic Party from the Rt Hon Dr Lawrence Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to the new helmsman in the person of Barr Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mba, and the just inaugurated leadership of the state Assembly, the morale of all proud and hopeful Ndi-Greater Awgu instead of being rekindled, is now at its lowest ebb.
3. In 2015, Hon. Donatus Uzoagbado from Oji-River (Greater Awgu) emerged Deputy Speaker of Enugu State while Agbaja produced the Deputy Governor and the Chief of Staff after occupying Lion Building for Eight Years as Governor of Enugu under His Excellency, Barr. Sullivan Chime.
4. But in 2019, after the re-election of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Greater Awgu was denied the Deputy Speaker position and was given to Agbaja for the reason best known to Enugu State PDP.
5. The new power equation where in Enugu West Senatorial District, no Greater Awgu individual was favored or considered worthy of any presiding officer position in this 8th Assembly, albeit having the conditions of the house and constitutional standing rules for such principal offices which indeed we have qualified person in the assembly to occupy.
6. It was on record that the Deputy Governor was supposed to come from Greater Awgu in 2015, but because of the Senate seat then occupied by Sen. Ike Ekweremadu, which was quite understandable.
7. After denying Greater Awgu the position of Deputy Speaker in 2019 and again taking the position of the Speaker of Enugu State House of Assembly zoned to Enugu West again to Agbaja in 2023, plus the senate seat already relinquished to Agbaja, it is nothing but a pure manifestation of injustice and unfairness against the people of Greater Awgu in the power sharing formula in this new Enugu State Government led by His Excellency, Barr. Peter Mbah.
8. The condition of Greater Awgu in Enugu State power sharing formula under Governor Peter Mbah is worse than the condition of Ndi Igbo in Nigeria comparatively today, at least Nigerian National Assembly led by APC gave South East Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives.

1. We are calling on the leadership of PDP Enugu State led by His Excellency, Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, the Executive Governor of Enugu State, to do the needful in the spirit of love, the much awaited tomorrow which have arrived and as a matter of urgency to bring Greater Awgu on board in the interest of good conscience, equity, fairness and justice, to avoid further cries of marginalization from our people.
