The Obi-Datti Movement has said supporters of the Labor Party, LP, otherwise known as “Obidients” and the party’s vice-presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, are ready for a televised debate challenge by Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka.
The spokesperson of the Obi-Datti Movement, Professor Chris Nwakobia, disclosed this in an interview with Arise TV on Saturday.
Speaker Obi-Datti allowed Soyince to come to the televised debate.
When asked if Baba-Ahmed will debate Soyinka, Nwaokobia said: “Oh yes he will and indeed he will. The least of the Obidents can engage in this debate and do so deeply.
“I know Professor Wole Soyinka, I know he will not enter this debate because the point is that history is full of facts and figures,” he added.
He said that either Datti Baba-Ahmed or, indeed, the smallest of the Obidents would match Soyinka if he dared to come out.
According to Nwakobia, Soyinka would not dare come into the debate saying that the Nobel laureate whom he described as his mentor had sided with the alleged oppressors of the people.
The Obi-Datti Movement spokesman further defended the claim of Datti Baba-Ahmed, who said it would be illegal to swear in Tinubu on the fact that the All Progressives Congress, the APC candidate, did not even get a quarter of the votes in Abuja, set out in the constitution.
However, Nwakobia said he believed Soyinka could not come to debate with any member of the Obi-Datti Movement.
He said: “Do you know that some of us see him as their mentor because he understands the fact that disobedience to an unjust law is really the greatest respect for the law?
“Around 1965, he stormed into a radio station with a gun and rejected the announcement of Akintola as the winner of the election. History is such a beautiful spectacle, and I am asking my ‘egbon’ and honorable laureate to oblige the youths who are saying this to stand in the mandate given to Peter Obi.”
