Democracy Day in Enugu – EWGA Lauds Gov. Ugwuanyi’s 75% Inclusion of youths in governance – By Collins Kaineme

The Enugu West General Assembly (EWGA) has hailed Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State for his inclusive government which has given a percentage of his cabinet and other opportunities in governance to young people in the state.

The leadership of EWGA, led by Hon. Prince Humphrey Onyima, made the commendation in a press statement made available to the media in Enugu on Friday.

“Besides allocating the over 75 per cent of the Enugu State Council chairmen seats to the youths, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is still giving out political appointments to the youths into his cabinet, a feat we consider second to none and first of its kind in Nigeria.

“Gov. Ugwuanyi is building legacies. Handing over leadership to the younger generation remains one of his stand-out legacies. Enugu youths now have a voice. This further buttresses the obvious reality that the youths are not the leaders of tomorrow but leaders of today. They only need proper inclusion and nurturing,” Onyima’s statement read.

Sometime in August 2019, youth groups in the state urged Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to allocate, at least, 40 per cent of appointments into his cabinet to young people.

The young people made the call during a meeting coordinated by the state chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) and had present representatives of the Ohanaeze Youth Council, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), amongst other youth groups.

Today, the Enugu West General Assembly (EWGA) has applauded the governor for allocating over 75 per cent of the tickets of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just concluded February 29th, 2020 council elections in the state to youths, besides other political appointments in his cabinet, in fulfillment of the promise he made during his second inaugural speech, affirming that it is “youth o’clock” in the state, in line with the advocacy for the ‘Not Too Young To Run’.

It is on this premise, the secretary-general of EWGA and SA to the governor of Enugu State, Hon. Ilogebe Chidi; the general publicity secretary II, Engr. Sampson Obiora Onyia; the general women leader, Comrade Ohotu Obiageli Ann; the Awgu LGA coordinator of EWGA , Comrade Bright Madu; the Oji River coordinator, Hon. Chinedu Mba; the Aninri coordinator, Prince Nwanjoku Ekenedilichukwu and his Ezeagu counterpart, Comrade Anochili Emeka Gerald, heartily congratulate the governor on his unequivocal youth-inclusive administration in Enugu State, as Nigeria marks first-of-its-kind Democracy Day in history, in commemoration of the first democratic election of the 3rd Republic on June 12, 1993.
