LEADERSHIIP SCORECARD ADVOCATES FOR PEACE, HONOURS NON- VIOLENCE POLLS AMBASSADORS IN NASARAWA AHEAD OF 2019 – By Chioma Odobu

    Leadership SCORECARD ahead of 2019 carried out a sensitization campaign tagged “Non-Violence participation in the 2019 general elections”. It was a mass sensitization campaign for youths and students, urging them to shun violence during the 2019 elections.

    In line with the global best practices in ethical re-orientation with special focus on curbing avoidable electoral violence in Nigeria, Leadership SCORECARD, as part of her social corporate responsibility embarks on a mass sensitization campaign on Non-Violence participation as Nigeria prepares for the 2019 general elections with the ultimate goal of re-enforcing the core values of discipline and dignity in the electoral process.

    The publisher Leadership SCORECARD, Mr. Humphrey Onyima in his opening remarks said yesterday at the event in Keffi, that “the campaign is geared towards re-affirming the endless benefits of peaceful behavior in an electoral process; bringing to the front burner the indisputable facts that youths and students are mostly the tools and victims of electoral violence.

    He said “the Non-Violence campaign also seeks to draw a line that separates peaceful-patriotic-participation from desperate-violence-participation in the electoral process. While addressing the youths, Mr. Onyima said that those who perpetrate electoral violence and are mostly affected by violence during elections are the youths and students, therefore they should exempt themselves from anything or anyone that will lead them to violence and urged the youths to give their support to ensure that the sensitization campaign is achieved.

    Dr. Abdulkarim Abubakar Kana, the Honourable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Nasarawa State in his paper presentation at the event urged the youths to be awakened and work towards nation building, as it is their responsibility. He said the youths should not think that there is still time because there is no time. The youths should resist and stop irresponsible followership and join hands in making the country a better place. He also advised the youths to avoid spreading fake news in the social media to avoid being victims of it. The country will never get better until we get better, he said.

    The Emir of Keffi – His Royal Highness, Dr. Shehu Cindo Yamusa III, ably represented by Alh. Sule Mohammed Dan-Magaji Keffi in his royal remarks commends Leadership SCORECARD for organizing such wonderful event at the time Nigerians need it most.  The Chairman Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission – Hon. Henry Omaku in his remarks encouraged the youths to stop being used as tools by politicians and stand up for their rights.

    Prof. Abdullahi Modibo representing the Vice Chancellor of Nasarawa State University Keffi at the event advised students not to allow themselves to be manipulated and encouraged them to participate peacefully in the upcoming elections. He said students should refuse to be used as tools for violence; he also advised the youths to believe in themselves and participate to take over politics not with the mindset of looting but to enact laws that will favour the masses and erase sentiments of ethnicity and religion from their minds which only hinders progress in life.

    Leadership SCORECARD at the flag-off of the Mass Sensitization Campaign on Non-Violence conferred Leadership Scorecard 2019 Non-Violence Polls awards to the following people; namely:   Hon. Abubakar Hassan Nalaraba, APC candidate  for Keana, Awe Federal Constituency; Dr. Mohammed Yau, APC candidate for Wamba, Akwanga, Nasarawa Eggon Federal Constituency; Hon. David Ombugadu, PDP Guber candidate, Nasarawa State; Engr. A.A Sule, APC Guber candidate Nasarawa State and  Hon. Henry Omaku, the Chairman of Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission, all from Nasarawa State duly selected and honoured as role models to stand as ambassadors of non-violence in Nasarawa State and Nigeria at large.

    Others in attendance were the officials of the Student Union Government (SUG), Nasarawa State Students Association (NASSA); the students Joint Campus Committee (JCC); the Chairman of Nasarawa Eggon LGA; representative of the Commissioner of Police Nasarawa State.

    Mr. Sunday Ogbu, the General Manager of Leadership Scorecard in his closing remarks appealed to the government of Nasarawa State to support Leadership Scorecard towards replicating the campaign across the 17-LGAs in the state.

    Alh. Sule Mohammed commended all the guests and speakers as well as organizers of the event and called on the youths to adhere to all the lectures and advice given to them and also implement it in the elections.
