Having meticulously x-rayed Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s exemplary leadership qualities, administrative credentials, peaceful disposition and maturity in handling security matters, excellent management of public funds, economic empowerment and approach to poverty alleviation through improved administrative engagements, capacity maximisation, human capital development, youth empowerment, students’ welfare, grass-roots development initiative – with direct bearing on the less privileged and the downtrodden – I hereby resolve, after wide consultations, to stand for him, work for him and to go any length with him, not minding whose ox is gored.
In terms of social contracts, the question for power determines the principles in the bargain and the truth that makes men free is that which most people would prefer not to hear. The question is, who do we make captain of the ship; the most popular man or the one that understands the art of navigation? Whichever one you choose, Ugwuanyi is a combination of both.
In my slinkiness and deepest recesses of my heart, the masterly survey of Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwanyi’s socio-political pedigree offers comfort and assurance to the good people of Enugu State in solidarity for him.
Some mischievous political pay-masters are champions of the systematic campaign for ruthless repression but, in the case of Gov. Ugwuanyi, the way is forward and the people will definitely get the best bargain, because he is the right person; one who has got respect for the views of the minority.
It has been proved time and time again that the only path to true human development and liberation is the decision of a leader to transform the lives of others – by repositioning or restructuring the leadership spectrum through an all-inclusive participation in governance.
Naturally, when a great leader emerges, the forces that beset mankind stand still and the people respond with an inexplicable jubilation over the arrival of this unique and, most times, uncommon being.
Ugwuanyi is, indeed, an uncommon leader with uncommon leadership qualities that has influences policies that have direct bearing on the socio-economic well-being of the people. The first phase of his administration has boosted employment opportunities for the good people of the state and improved her internally-generated revenue (IGR).
As it stands presently, the good people of the state need no weatherman to tell them which way the wind blows. We can, indeed, become the architects of our fate when we take hold of and utilise leadership opportunities. We can become spies on behalf of good governance and justice for the well-being of our people. We can start appreciating successful leaders with good intentions, run miles to discover solutions to our common problems and match forward as one (uncompromising) to implement the people-oriented policies ushered in and aimed to be sustained by Ugwuanyi.
I, Humphrey Onyima, wish to crave the indulgence of all and sundry to state, unequivocally, that the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwanyi is, indeed, an uncommon, historical leader; a governor that has revamped the state’s comatose fire service facilities after 56 years, resuscitated that death-trap called Milliken Hills Road abandoned for over 70 years, introduced direct community development fund of N10m per autonomous community, helped Rangers International FC reclaim its lost glory after 35 years, localizes governance, taken the dividends of democracy to the down-trodden; a man who has been tested, trusted and to whom the well-being of Ndi Enugu can be entrusted.
Yesterday, we talked about the golden era; today, we are seeking to advance the golden, forward-thinking era. ‘Gburugburu’ is not just a name, it is an ideology of movement. I am not talking rhetoric; this is reality.
My message to those who take canny delight in playing politics of calumny in Enugu State is that, they can rest assured in the fact that they will be defeated. For those who share in the positive dreams and aspirations of Gov. Ugwuanyi, I salute you with fraternal solidarity.
Let the good people of Enugu State enthusiastically visualise the state anew, in the Hands of God, with Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; a new state where everyone, irrespective of social status, is equal before the law.
I am talking about a state where political opponents shall be tolerated as friends with different political views and not as enemies; a state in which there would be mutual respect for one another, in spite of our different senatorial districts and socio-cultural groupings; a state where we shall celebrate fulfillment of campaign promises and reap huge democratic dividends; a state where provisions of basic social amenities shall no longer be seen as privileges but as rights; a state where our constitution shall not be seen as a legal document for legislative argument or arbitrations but as a sacred guide to sustainable development; a state where the state judiciary shall be pro-active, vibrant and committed to the rule of law by all ramifications; a state where mind-boggling looting of public treasury shall be mitigated as already initiated by Ugwuanyi’s administration, thereby ensuring equitable and just distribution of the state resources; a state where there shall be absolute freedom of the press and speech and there is unlimited, guaranteed access to public information; a state where political appointments shall be purely based on merit and not as compensation; a state where there would be less dependence on government because government, on its part, shall be committed to creating an enabling environment for the people to succeed in all aspects of life; a state where quality education shall be declared from nursery to tertiary levels; a state where private institutions and organisations are not only aware but equally committed to their mandatory corporate social responsibilities to various communities where they are located; a state where Diaspora potentials shall be harnessed and repatriated for domestic development; a state with genuine doggedness that shall remain constantly consistent and consistently constant in the pursuit of common infrastructural and social development for the benefits of the good people of the state.
Once again, a new Enugu State is possible in the Hands of God, with Gov. Ugwuanyi leading the charge 2019 – 2023.
