IGWE LEADERSHIP TUSSLE: Enugu Community Accuse Ministry of Chieftaincy of Jumping Due Process – Call on Gov. Mbah to Intervene

The people of Obuno Autonomous Community in Akpugo Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State have expressed surprise and disappointment over the attitude of Deacon Okey Ogbodo, Commissioner for Chieftaincy Matters in Enugu State over purported issuance of certificate of recognition to one Chief Jack Nwatu.

The event which was said to have taken place at the Ministry of Chieftaincy Matters in Enugu, saw Deacon Ogbodo presenting certificate to Chief Nwatu in total violation of the Chieftaincy laws.

Addressing journalists in Enugu, a top contender for the position, Prince Okwy Agbo said he even placed a call to the Commissioner to remind him that there has never been verification/Election in Obuno Uno Autonomous Community and that the matter is even with the High Court Agbani, noting that the Commissioner ignored him.

“What type of man did our Governor brought into his administration?. When I heard that he was going to give Chief Jack Nwatu certificate without verification, and election I thought it was a joke. Since 2016, Jack has been writing to be recognized without due process but the government of Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and the Commissioners that worked under the Chieftaincy Matters refused his offer until now.

I know, governor Peter Mbah did not instruct him to do what he did, because he is a lawyer and understand what it means that a matter is in the court.

The governor should know those that meant well for him. Deacon Okey Ogbodo is not one. He must be sanctioned immediately”.

Prince Agbo while urging the people of Obuno Uno Autonomous Community to remain calm said no one will accept such imposition in a democratic society.

“We want the governor to reverse what ever Deacon Okay Ogbodo did and direct him to follow due process. We are challenging the Obnoxious Constitution of our Community in Court. Even last Wednesday we were in court and will go back again on 30th of this month So Okey Ogbodo has decided the Court case. What a shame he said”.

He called on the Governor, security agencies, Religious bodies and Human Rights Organization to hold the Commissioner responsible for any break down of law and order in the area.

As at the time of filling this report, the Commissioners refused to take his calls nor respond to WhatsApp messages even when it was shown that he read them.
