EWGA COMMENDS Gov. Peter Mbah’s GOOD GOVERNANCE INITIATIVES IN ENUGU, REJECTS THE PRAXIS OF FEUDALISM AND PREBENDAL REPRESENTATION IN HIS CABINET SELECTION

Democracy is defined as the government of the People, by the People and for the People, not for the feudals and aristocrats. This is to say that our government is elected by the citizens, not solely by feudals or aristocrats. Here, citizens vote for their representatives in the government. These officials represent the citizens’ ideas and concerns in the government of the day.

Voting is one way to participate in every viral democracy. Citizens can also contact their officials when they want to support or change a policy through the appropriate channels in a given democracy.

Democracy is a government in which powers and civic responsibilities are exercised by all adult citizens, directly, or through their freely elected representatives.

Democracy rests upon the principles of majority rule and individual rights.

Feudalism and Aristocracy tend to encourage the distribution of leadership positions by hierarchy among the feudals and people of the highest class in certain societies, typically comprising people of noble birth, holding hereditary titles and offices as public servants, while democracy is an equality based political structure which promotes the concept of citizenship and individual participation, fairness and justice in the distribution of the state resources as the basis of democracy.

Your Excellency, Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, the Executive Governor of Enugu State, the recent appointments of the children of the elites, the daughter of a former Governor of Enugu State and the son of former Deputy Senate President of Nigeria, who have been feeding fat on our common wealth absolutely calls for concern and quite unacceptable.

If leadership positions are reserved for the children of the former Governors and Senators, what then is the fate of the leadership ambition of the son of a palmwine taper who defied the heavy rains and the scorching sun to protect your votes at the INEC office in Enugu for three good days?

What is the fate of the leadership dreams of the daughter of the mama-put food-vendor or the son of that woman selling pepper in the market, who followed you round the 17 LGAs to canvas and mobilize votes for you during the 2023 guber campaigns in Enugu?

Your Excellency! please do not give the masses the impression that leadership qualifications can only be sexually transmitted among the elites from father to son or father to daughter.

If Dr Chimaroke Nnamani didn’t give you the opportunity as the son of nobody to serve as Chief of Staff and Commissioner for Finance under his administration between 1999 – 2007, may be nobody would have discovered who Peter Mbah is.

Your Excellency, apart from your calibre of person who came prepared from the private sector with towering records of brilliant accomplishments, controlling enormous resources in the Oil and Gas sector, these former Governor and former Deputy Senate President become richer by occupying government positions albeit no records of individual enterpreneural accomplishments outside public office.

In a comparative analysis of the net-worth of Ike Ekweremadu and Sullivan Chime, before and after been in government, you will surely totally agree that they are supper richer today with assets scattered here and there in the entire globe.

So, what other compensations do they want from Ndi Enugu, having fed fat on our common wealth? Are they the only families meant to be in government, to be serviced with public resources?

Your Excellency, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, notwithstanding, the leadership of Enugu West General Assembly (EWGA) ably led by Hon. Prince Humphrey Onyima (EBUBE MGBOWO) hereby salute your commitment, doggeness tenacity, and sacrifice in the following areas, namely:

(1). your doggeness in the fight against insecurity, putting adequate security measures in place for the protection of lives and properties in Enugu metropolis and beyond.

(2). the ongoing Water Scheme Project initiative to provide Water for All in Enugu State within your first 180 days in office, very commendable.

(3). brokering relationships with development partners and economic growth drivers like UNDP, UNESCO, USAID for development interventions in our dear state,

(4). Your Disruptive Innovation initiative through Enugu SME Center Partnering with Tech Giants like MTN, Microsoft, Meta, and Others to train Enugu Young Entrepreneurs on ICT & Business Skills,

(5) the recent inauguration of a committee for verifying and paying pensions and gratuities of retired primary school teachers and other local government retirees,

6. The Enugu State Gov’t warning to sanction Petrol Stations over Exploitation Of Customers At Filling Stations Via Metre Manipulations, is a move in the appropriate direction in line with the consumer’s protection rights.

(7). the repositioning of Enugu Rangers with the New Rangers’ CEO, Barr. Amobi Ezeaku for the Club’s Management towards Enhanced Performance, among others.

In as much as we salute Your Excellency’s leadership disposition in the areas where you are getting it right, we will not hesitate to call your attention to the unfashionable return of the practice of prebendalism in your recent cabinet selection which is considered unacceptable in our 21st century democracy.

We refuse to accept that Aninri LGA is bankrupt of competency except in Ekweremadu’s family.

We refuse to accept that Awgu LGA is bankrupt of competency except in the person of Sullivan Chime’s Daughter married in Awgu.

We refuse in totality to accept that Enugu West Senatorial District is void of competent people except in the families of Ike Ekweremadu and Sullivan Chime.

And any politician in today Nigeria who thinks that leadership position is a generational inheritance should better have a rethink, the people are seriously awake to take back their common destinies.

THIS MESSAGE IS BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE LEADERSHIP OF ENUGU WEST GENERAL ASSEMBLY (EWGA) LED BY HON. PRINCE HUMPHREY ONYIMA (EBUBE MGBOWO).
