The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Enugu State chapter, has named Dr. SKC Ogbonnia as its leader in the state.
Ogbonnia, the Enugu-born Nigerian-American Chairman of First Texas Energy Corporation and renowned academic and author, was announced following an expanded State Executive meeting held in Enugu on Saturday.
The decision was contained in a statement by the State Secretary, Dr. Sebastine Chukwuebuka Okafor.
According to Okafor, the party settled for Ogbonnia in recognition of his commitment to the growth of the NDC, his support for the party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, and his capacity for democratic development.
“The new leadership arrangement will strengthen coordination and provide effective direction as we prepare for forthcoming political activities,” Okafor said.
“The party is focused on building a united structure for electoral victory. With someone like Dr. Ogbonnia, who has demonstrated strong commitment to the growth and stability of the NDC in Enugu, victory is assured come 2027. His background in business, academia and public affairs will be invaluable.”
He urged all members and supporters to rally behind the new leadership, adding that the NDC remains committed to providing a credible alternative for Enugu and Nigeria.
“This is a time for unity, discipline and collective responsibility. Our objective is clear: to build a strong platform capable of delivering the change Nigerians are demanding.”
Also speaking, the State Chairman, Dr. Johnpaul Anih, congratulated Ogbonnia, describing him as possessing the experience and capacity to lead the party to success.
Anih commended the National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, and the National Chairman, Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, for their efforts in uniting the party, particularly in Enugu State.
He assured that his executive would continue to mobilize and strengthen party structures, and called on leaders to converge in Oji River on Wednesday for the official kick-off of campaigns for the forthcoming local government elections.
