Leading to the next Gubernatorial elections in Enugu State, Indigent political leaders have activated moves for the governorship position to be zoned to the Enugu East Senatorial District, to produce the next governor of the State. As Isi-Uzo youth rebuff Ekweremadu.
This reinstates the call for zoning which was declared in Enugu, on Sunday by a youth Group in Isi Uzor Local Government of Enugu East, the chairman of the group who simply identified themselves as Democracy for Isi Uzo (DIU).
The chairman Mr. Izuchukwu Mbu, while addressing the issue of political marginalization in the State, insisted that the zoning formula of the People’s Democratic Party will be maintained.
He stated that to actualize their plan, the group asked political leaders in the Senatorial district to quickly meet and jointly correct what he described as “political imbalance” in the State if what is going around the media is true, he insisted that Senator Ike Ekweremadu who hails from Enugu West senatorial district will not become the governorship candidate of the PDP come 2023.
Also, he claimed that the State would be more united if the Enugu East senatorial district produced the next governor, adding that it would also achieve what he called “even development in the state.”
Mr. Mbu explained among other things that; “The only thing that can sustain the unity of the state is when men of honor and conscience across the three zones of the state come together to support Enugu East senatorial district to govern the state, with a view to correcting the political imbalance by upholding the doctrine of equity in the state.
He said, “Men and women of conscience should speak against the marginalization of Enugu East Senatorial district in the power-sharing before it is too late. Zoning arrangement allows for easy development and ensures that every component unit is at par with each other, appealing to those opposed to the idea to have a change of heart.”
Furthermore, “Enugu is one of the states in Nigeria with the highest number of educated persons, it will be embarrassing for outsiders to see that our state is not making any impact on the areas of employment creation, health, technology, agriculture, education, public utilities, and quality road construction.
Finally, “There is need for all hands to be on deck to correct the injustice that will be done if Enugu west senatorial district produces the next governorship candidate against Enugu East as part of frantic efforts to bring every zone under one table as brothers by supporting Enugu East,” Mr. Mbu said, as Isi-Uzo youth rebuff Ekweremadu.
