Ahead of the 2023 governorship election in Rivers State, influencial political leaders in the state are already throwing jabs at each other as they try to poll support for their candidates.
The executive Governor of the state, Nyesom Wike on Thursday questioned the move by his immediate predecessor and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi to bring someone as the next governor of the state.
Wike asked, what project did Amaechi influenced to Rivers state when he served as a Minister of Transportation that made him to think he can bring someone to govern the state in 2023?
In a report by Vanguard on Thursday, Wike alleged that Amaechi cannot point at one thing he brought to Rivers State when he held sway as a Minister of Transportation.
He explained that the people of Rivers State will not allow the former Governor to impose anybody on them because he didn’t remember the state when he served as the main Minister of a lucrative ministry in the country.
He said, “What will the former minister (Amaecchi) tell them (Rivers voters) that he brought? Not one thing, not one?
“Now they removed you. You now want to come and bring somebody as governor. It will not happen.
The Governor went further to state that APC and its governorship candidate will fail in the next governorship election in the state because they have nothing to campaign to convince the people of Rivers.
He said the PDP governorship candidate in the state, Sim Fubara, will take over from him, and added that parties in line to contest against the PDP governorship candidate will be engaging in what he termed as an exercise in futility.
