The feud between the Presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, and the Governor of Rivers State, Governor Nyesom Wike seems to have taken another turn as both party men failled to reach an agreement after their closed-door meeting yesterday in Abuja. Recall that since the conclusion of the PDP primaries, there have been reports that Wike is upset because he didn’t get the VP slot that many had believed would be given to him.
However, during the meeting yesterday, Atiku had stated that if Wike fails to fall in line with him, he would not hesitate to start the campaign without his help, adding that President Buhari won the 2019 election without votes from Rivers, but Lagos, Kano, and other strategic States. While reacting to this, Governor Wike asked;
“Did I tell you I want to be the next Minister of Petroleum Resources?
Have I not been a minister before?
Do you control Lagos and Kano, like President Muhammadu Buhari, if you don’t need Rivers?
Have I asked for anything to support you?”.
Meanwhile, Atiku’s response to most of the questions were rumoured to be “No”.
In conclusion, Atiku and Wike are yet to come to terms ahead of the 2023 Presidential election, but the party’s Board of Trustees made it known that their focus is to unite the party before the commencement of campaigns.
