A soldier, Yusuf Gongpolai Adams, caught with 81 parcels of cannabis in Bauchi
The Police Command in Bauchi has arrested a soldier for alleged possession of 81 parcels of cannabis.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umar Sanda, at a news conference on Tuesday in Bauchi, said the soldier was arrested while travelling on Bauchi-Darazo Road by Safer Highway Patrol team of the Command.
The team, he said, intercepted a Toyota Highlander vehicle driven by one Yusuf Gongpolai Adams.
“The suspect is attached to the Nigerian Army 145 Battalion, Abia State, and he is presently on a development course at the Nigerian Army school of Environmental and Science Technology, Benue State.
“A thorough search was conducted on the vehicle and 81 parcels of dry leaves suspected to be cannabis were found in his possession, one pair of army uniform and charms amongst others,” he said.
Sanda said the suspect would be handed over to the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) as soon as investigations were completed.
He revealed that 32 others suspects were arrested by operatives of the Command acting on intelligence for various crimes including criminal conspiracy, burglary, theft, kidnapping, robbery and impersonation among others.
Sanda said the suspects were arrested in various raids conducted by the Command to rid the state of criminal activities.
“A large number of different types of dangerous live ammunitions and weapons were recovered as exhibits.
“Investigation is still on after which the suspects will be charged to court,” he said.
The CP, however, urged criminal elements to renounce crimes and submit themselves for orientation and reintegration into the society.
