ENUGU – The leadership of Awgu Progressives Forum, Enugu West General Assembly, EWGA, and Awgu Youth General Assembly, AYGA, in a press conference held today been Saturday 4th of July, 2020, at Isuawa Town Hall in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, commend His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Hon. Lawrence Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his timely intervention in Awgu during the trying time of insecurity in 2019 and, specially, for the
uncommon peace which his administration has maintained in Enugu State.
We thank His Excellency for his recent intervention in Awgu General Hospital and the School of Midwifery, which he visited recently and has signed off on renovations which are ongoing.
Also, we thank His Excellency for carrying Ndi Awgu along in his government, especially as regards political appointments and, more importantly, the ongoing University of Education Ihe which is currently under construction.
We unanimously agree to support and stand for the governor’s efforts, good works and sound policies in Enugu State.
We also resolve and stand in support of the government of Hon. Pedro Okwudili Nwankwo, the Executive Chairman of Awgu Local government and all his good policies.
Above all, we unanimously accept and stand with the governor in the zoning of the 2023 governorship slot to Enugu East senatorial zone.
We want to state categorically and, above all, that the members of Awgu Progressives, as bona fide members of the People Democratic Party (PDP), belong to Enugu West Senatorial Zone AND not Greater Awgu Cultural Zone as presented by some politicians in Awgu for their 2023 selfish political interest against the ongoing zoning arrangement in Enugu State.
Our nation is a federal unit known for its political zones and not cultural zones and, thus, there is no recognizable geographical partition as the ‘Greater Awgu Cultural Zone’, as being propagated by some desperate politicians in the zone as a launching pad for the actualization of their inordinate political ambition come 2023 and as a sly protest against the zoning arrangement in Enugu State.
We hope that this correction is noted and the polity, as well as the electorate, do not get swept away by the fantasies of an impish minority and scheming of a politically inordinate few.
Let all stakeholders take note.
