Labour Party Set To Address Age Long Political Marginalization In Enugu State.
…Zone Governorship, Deputy Governorship Seat To Isi-Uzo, Greater Awgu
By Ejike Nwobodo
From the feelers coming from the Labour Party Secretariat in Enugu State, the party is almost concluding their plans to create a new political arrengement that is aimed at addressing the age long political marginalization of some sections of Enugu State defined as minority quarters.
The new Political arrangements being considered by the Labour party in the state informed why it accommodated a candidate from Isi Uzo Local Government Area in Enugu East Senatorial Zone Hon. Barr. Chijioke Edeoga to fly the ticket of the party for the Governorship seat and set to zone the Deputy Governorship seat of the party to Greater Awgu comprising Oji-River, Awgu and Aninri respectively.
It will be recalled that both Isi-Uzo in Enugu East Senatorial Zone and Greater Awgu in Enugu West Senatorial Zone have never produced both the seat of the Governor and Deputy Governor since the creation of Anambra, Old Enugu State and the present Enugu State.
This development is also said to be the Major reason that informed the stiff fight Senator Ike Ekweremadu presented in the PDP ahead of its primary election held in May 25, 2022 that greater Awgu should be given a chance to ascend to the highest office in Enugu State.
The people of Isi-Uzo equally mounted a pressure that shook the state through the “Ka Isi Uzo Jee” Movement considering their plight not to have equally produced either the Governorship or Deputy Governorship seats since the creation of both Anambra, Old Enugu State and the Enugu States.
Senators Jim Nwobodo and Chimaroke Nnamani have both on different times been governors from the core Nkanu axis of Enugu East Senatorial Zone while Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo and Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi have also been governors from Enugu North Senatorial Zone on different occasions.
In the same vein also, H.E Sunday Onyebuchi from the core Nkanu axis of Nkanu East in Enugu East Senatorial Zone has been deputy governor and Chief Okechukwu Itanyi of Igbo-Etiti in Enugu North Senatorial Zone has been deputy governor.
From Enugu West Senatorial Zone also, Barr. Sullivan Chime and Hon. Barr. Cecilia Ezeilo from the Udi/ Ezeagu LGAs have been both Governor and Deputy Government respectively.
From the above narrative, it is obvious that the choice of Hon. Barr. Chijioke Edeoga from Isi-Uzo in Enugu East Senatorial Zone and the choice of a candidate from Greater Awgu will put to rest the political marginalization being complained of by these sections of the Enugu state that are defined as minorities in the state.
The development is said to have been welcomed by political gladiators in the state who believe that what is good for the gander is good for the gosling and will create a sense of inclusion and peace in the state.
