The leadership of the House of Representatives has issued a stern warning to the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas (retired), cautioning him against attempting to perform legislative duties or encroach upon the responsibilities of the state assembly.
Deputy Spokesperson of the House, Philip Agbese, raised the alarm following reports that Ibas plans to draft a new state budget. Speaking with Punch, Agbese revealed that the Speaker of the House is currently in consultations to establish a special committee tasked with monitoring developments in Rivers State.
Agbese emphasized that the National Assembly remains aware of the situation and that the president has been informed of the House’s position concerning the limits of Ibas’ mandate.
“The Sole Administrator does not have the authority to carry out the National Assembly’s function of making laws under the current circumstances,” Agbese stated.
He added that the proposed committee will ensure proper oversight and safeguard the interests of the people of Rivers State. The lawmaker further assured that the House would take appropriate action if Ibas is found to have acted beyond the scope of his authority.
