Federal lawmaker, Pat Asadu, trains over 2000 constituents in fish farming, piggery, poultry, others – By Chukwuemeka Chimerue

…set to flag-off distribution of empowerment items to beneficiaries
The Honourable Member representing Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South federal constituency, Dr. Patrick Oziokoja Asadu, has embarked on strategic and massive empowerment programme for members of his constituency in the area of agricultural production.
The two-day programme which kicked-off on Saturday, witnessed the training of over 500 selected men and women from his constituency in modern fish farming, piggery and poultry.
Other areas of engagement in the training include sweet potato, banana and plantain plantation.
He assured the beneficiaries that funds and empowerment tools which would be flagged-off today Sunday been 20th December at Adada House Nsukka, would be provided to help the newly trained fish and piggery farmers and those trained in other areas of mechanized farming, set up their agro-businesses.
The beneficial participants were trained in Nsukka local government council for free by a group of resourceful experts that specialise in modern fish farming, piggery and other areas of agricultural production.
The resourceful persons who were contracted to facilitate the training handed copies of manual handouts and other requisite items to the trainees to aid their learning process.
A cross-section of the beneficiaries interviewed by our Reporter, expressed delight and happiness with the opportunity accorded to them.
They all promised to utilize the training to improve on their skills and invest whatever fund that would be given to them to sustain their livelihood.
Speaking on behalf of the trainees at one of the training centers, Mr. Mbah Peter Chukwuka, thanked the federal lawmaker for giving them the opportunity to participate in the programme.
According to him, “I’m very much happy that this programme is coming from our leader in the House of Rep; the man that feels the pulse of his people. Formerly, he was dealing on medical outreaches for the less-privileged in our communities and today, he has entered into agriculture and skill acquisition. It’s another way of touching the lives of the masses and from the things we have learned so far from this programme, it is going to make a good impact not only in our lives, but that of our local government.
“He has been doing more than what is expected of him. It is only Hon. Pat Asadu that came into power and we discovered that we can even come closer to a member of the House of Rep. He comes down to the grassroots. He can talk to you and he is available anywhere you want him to talk to you. He can bring himself so low to talk to the people and grooming them to bring them up. I thank him so much.
“I have learnt a lot. I’m already into piggery farming but today, this training has introduced me into another new dimension and approach which has helped me to know some of the problems I have encountered in the past and going forward, I believe things will change.
“Also, in poultry farming, they have thought us how to handle it in a very simple way, not to ravish our feeds or money buying fuel because in most cases when we get the chicks, we use lantern or charcoal to warm up the rooms where they stay without even knowing that at a certain stage, once it is up to 3 months, you can stop it and even feeding at night can be stopped.”
