The leadership of Enugu West General Assembly (EWGA), ably led by Hon. Prince Humphrey Umezulike Onyima Njoku commends the former Deputy Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Senator representing Enugu West Senatorial District in the red Chambers of the National Assembly, distinguished Senator Ike Ekweremadu, for his wise decision in pulling out of the 2023 guber race in Enugu State and thereafter congratulated Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mba, the Peoples Democratic Party gubernatorial Flagbearer for 2023 general elections, stressing that his political ambition is not worth the life of any Enugu son or daughter.
And after he consulted widely with the elders of our party, well meaning friends and respected statesmen and women across Nigeria and beyond, taking into cognizance of his long and painstaking introspection and his contributions to the development of the PDP; considering the current security situation in the South East region and the need not to put anybody in harms way, wholeheartedly decided to officially withdraw from the Enugu guber race 2023 in the interest of peace and its sustenance in Enugu State, having stumbled on the obvious fact that his ambition is not the one of a do or die.
The leadership of Enugu West General Assembly (EWGA) wishes to acknowledge the indisputable fact that distinguished Senator Ike Ekweremadu has fought a good fight to redefine governance in our dear State.
Our Distinguished Senator has done marvellous, now is the time to review our journey so far and towing the path of honor for the unity of our dear State and for the growth of the younger generation is the ultimate sacrifice coming from an astute statesman like Ike Ekweremadu.
Ekweremadu has succeeded in opening the political space for greater participation in Enugu West. He has raised the consciousness of our people and opened our eyes to the positive possibilities, no doubt.
Your decision to withdraw from the 2023 gubernatorial contest in Enugu State and congratulating Barr. Peter Mba as the Enugu State PDP Guber Flagbearer 2023, thereby wishing him success is indeed the most acceptable ‘Pathway’ to the building of the New Enugu State of our collective dreams anchored on Equity, Fairness and Justice, considering the fact that what binds us together as Ndi Enugu will ultimately outlive the present political permutations.
Enugu West General Assembly assures distinguished Senator Ike Ekweremadu that the light he brought to Enugu West will never fissle out and we hope he rekindles the light in mentoring our youths in the area of good governance, effective and responsible political participation cum finest practice of democracy.
EWGA hereby call on the formidable members of Ikeoha Campaign Organisation; his irrepressible media team, and the diehard supporters of Ikeoha to henceforth see all members of the PDP family in Enugu West and indeed Enugu State at large who failed to share in their sentiment as friends and brethren with opposing political views and not as enemies, and vice versa on the part of everyone, as we prepare for the 2023 general elections.
Let us prepare for 2023 as one big family of the Peoples Democratic Party, Enugu, devoid of rancor and acrimony.
