The Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate for 2023 gubernatorial election in Enugu State, Barr. Peter Mbah, has disclosed his administration’s readiness, if elected by February, 2023, to ensure that the state is recognized as an oil producing state, banking on the huge oil deposit in Uzo Uwani LGA.
Barr. Mbah who was accompanied by his Deputy, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai; PDP House of Reps. Candidate for Nuskka/Igboeze South Federal Constituency, Hon. Engr. Vita Abba; Udenu LG Chairman, Hon. Solomon Izuchukwu Onah; Nsukka LG Chairman, Barr. Walter Ozioko; Hon. Chima Obieze, Member Enugu House of Assembly; Hon. Erochukwu Ugwueze, SPA to the governor; Hon. Fide Odoh, former chairman of Igboeze South LGA, among others, made the above disclosure during a “thank you” visit to Uzo Uwani LGA, at the council Secretariat in Umulokpa.
He explained that “through Uzo Uwani, his administration will make Enugu state an oil producing state, while stating that he would use the huge oil deposit in the LGA to industrialize the State.
The candidate however, described the rural council as historical in many ways, citing its agricultural strength and availability of inland waterways in the area.
According to him: “Uzo uwani is special to me because, through Uzo Uwani, we will make Enugu state an oil producing state.
“Uzo Uwani is Historical in many ways – both in terms of movement of goods and persons. And it plays a prominent role in this country.
“Here is that sleeping and dormant Giant we have in Enugu state but my government will resurrect it.
“We will fight with all our hands. Those dormant assets we have as a state are domiciled in Uzo Uwani LGA, but I will resuscitate them.
“The good news is that we have oil field in Uzo Uwani. We know the huge gas deposit here. We will use it to industrialize the LGA and the State at large.
“So this place is very very close to my heart,” Barr. Mbah said.
The PDP Guber candidate however, highlighted other opportunities in the LGA, while explaining how his government would turn around the fortunes of the people of the area, if elected.
“Enugu is not a landlocked state because of Uzo Uwani. This LGA made Enugu a coastal state. So this council is special.
“We have inland waterways transportation. We will develop it.
On Agriculture, Barr. Mbah said his administration would “set agricultural processing centres and create infrastructure in Uzo Uwani LGA so as to attract investors to the area.”

He further stated that his primary aim of visiting the LGA was not to campaign but thank the people of the LGA for finding him Worthy to fly the flag of the party in the February, 2022 governorship election in the state.
“Our primary purpose of coming here is to express our profound gratitude to the people of Uzo Uwani LGA, for voting for me during the primary.
“We are primarily here to thank you.
“We are here to express our appreciation for your role during the primary. We are not here to campaign, when it is time for us to sell our agenda, we will do it,” he concluded.
Earlier before his address, Hon. Chukwudi Celestine Nnadozie, the Executive Chairman of the LGA, had expressed his gratitude to the governorship candidate for visiting the LGA on a “thank you” note, while assuring him of supports of people of the area.
