During the elections, Peter Mbah had promised to “deliver water to everyone home” [through pipes] in Enugu within 180 days of his inauguration if elected governor of the State in 2023.

To beat the 180 days deadline, on November 25th, 2023, he inaugurated the Enugu water scheme and declared thus, “I am happy to announce to Ndi Enugu that as of today we are able to produce 120 million liters of water non-stop far above our consumption volume. I can state here and now that pipe borne water is here to stay.”

The entire media space were subsequently flooded with stories of how the governor has taken water to everyone home in the state.

However, the announcement soon turned out to be a hoax as pipe borne water was nowhere near peoples homes aside the areas which had water before Mbah’s administration.

The reality on ground is that 288 days after inauguration water vendors still use tankers to supply water in Enugu and a 25 liters bucket of drinking water which sold for 50 naira before this administration now sells for 250 naira.

During the campaigns, we were told that Peter Mbah, coming from the private sector had already articulated his visions and campaign promises and only needed to be sworn in to execute them with speed and accuracy as planned. Today, what we see is trial and error mode of government and confusion.
