Enugu West General Assembly (EWGA) led by Hon. Humphrey Onyima, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Enugu State, has congratulated Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Hon. Pedro Nwankwo (Awgu LGA), Hon. Ezekiel Chukwu (Aninri LGA), Hon. Udemezue Frank (Oji River LGA), Hon. Ifeanyi Agu (Udi LGA), Hon Chukwudi Ani (Ezeagu LGA) and all other candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu West and at large Enugu State on their landslide victories recorded in the just concluded February 29th, 2020 council elections in Enugu State.
The council election candidates, who ran under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, polled the highest number of votes cast to defeat their rivals at the polls.
Declaring the PDP council candidates winners of February 29th council elections in Enugu State by the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission, NSIEC, the LG Collation/Returning Officers for the council elections have stated that the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party won in all the 17 Local Government Areas of the State.
In a press release, shortly after the results were declared and officially ratified by the Returning Officers of ENSIEC, Onyima described the landslide victories at the polls as “a triumph for democracy and to the Peace-Loving Governor of Enugu State.”
According to Onyima, the council elections of 29th February have reaffirmed not only the verdict of the PDP in Enugu State but also, the overwhelming acceptance of the governor among the people of the state.
“This victory is not just for PDP and Governor Ugwuanyi but, more significantly, a victory for peace, equitable development and uncommon transformation in Enugu State.” We believe it is a motivation for the governor and the PDP to do more and, also, a veritable launch-pad into post-election activities in the state. “The three senatorial districts in Enugu State have unanimously voted for PDP across the 17 council areas of the state, because Gov. Ugwuanyi has justified their decision to elect PDP candidates,” EWGA said.
EWGA further hailed the victory of PDP as a victory for Ndi-Enugu, who stood up against all forms of political intimidation, high-handedness and wanton desperation, to show resilience, courage and undying commitment to the incontrovertible democratic principles of the rule of law, the sanctity of the electoral process, as well as the integrity and independence of the electoral umpire.
The EGWA commended the security agencies, election observers and the ENSIEC for the conduct of peaceful, free, fair and credible elections in Enugu State and thanked ‘Ndi Enugu’ who came out en masse to ensure that their voices ring out and their votes duly count.
