Enugu State Deputy Governor, Hon.(Mrs) Cecilia Ezeilo on Thursday, flagged-off the monthly prayers against insecurity, organized by the Catholic Women Organization (CWO) Enugu Diocese, with a call on them to get their Permanent Voters Card (PVC), as their “bullet” for the 2023 General Election.
As a speaker at the event held at the Catholic Women Organization centre Nazareth House Enugu, after the prayer session of the Rosary and praises, Ezeilo thanked the group for their prayers saying, “We thank you for your support to the government. We thank you for being there with us in all seasons, above all, we thank you for your prayers, hence, today I call you kneeling mums.”
“Prayer is one of the most important weapons of mothers and it’s the only spiritual armoury that we have. It is one mighty weapon, every mother must be armed with to forestall all forms of invasion against their homes. I want you to make reference to Lamentation 2 verse 19. Prayers change situation and a kneeling mother turns around situations.”
She said that parents should live a prayerful life to be able to train their children in the way of the Lord, quoting the Bible passage, “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he grows he will not depart from it.”
Ezeilo said: “Our role is also beyond the family. Women are also in the field of medicine, education, economics, politics and other sectors. Today, Enugu state has a woman as the Deputy Governor. We have a woman as the Commissioner for Finance, Commissioner for Inter- ministerial, Commissioner for Gender Affairs, SPA, SSA, SA. We can only achieve that if we have our bullets.”
“Our bullet is our Permanent Voter’s Card. I want women to be the ambassadors of voter’s card. I beg you to reach out to our husbands, children, and neighbors to go and register. With that we can say whom we want, or whom we did not want.”
Further more, Ezeilo said: “In the 2019 General Election, Enugu state women had the highest number of registered voters followed by youths. I want us to keep the lead. I want you to continue to support Enugu state government, to participate in the registration and collection of voter’s card, to be the eye of our children, as long as politics and other secular activities are concerned. I have here some caps with the inscription, get your PVC and I am handing it over to the CWO president. I am pleading that you take it home and be the ambassadors of your PVC. It is the only bullet we have to say whom we want and do not want.”
The Deputy Governor, who was decorated with the CWO uniform as the Patron of the Catholic Women Organization Enugu Diocese, thanked the group for the honour done to her.
She told them that the State Governor, Rt. Hon.(Dr.) Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi was aware of their programs and commended them for their efforts and their continuous prayers for the state government, peace, unity and progress in Enugu state and Nigeria as a whole.
The Deputy Governor led the women to light the candle, signifying the light of God and prayed that God will let His face shine upon Enugu state and Nigeria.
The president of CWO, Juliet Ani, in her speech said that the monthly prayer was aimed at seeking the face of God to curb the problem of insecurity in the country, and let His light to shine upon Enugu state and Nigeria as a whole.
She said that the group covered all the deaneries in Enugu Diocese. They included, Enugu, Udi, Nkwo-Nike, Aguobu, Agbani, and Emene deaneries.
Prayers were offered asking for God’s protection for the State Governor, Rt. Hon.(Dr.) Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the Deputy Governor Cecilia Ezeilo, Enugu state government, the people of the state and Nigeria.
Members also offered prayers of consecration to Virgin Mary, seeking her for protection.
Indeed, it was a day for Women Empowerment. Women have the power to change our future and this state.
When women come together in purpose, we hope, we dream, we love for tomorrow and the future.
As a great quotation says, “There’s something so special about a woman who dominates in a man’s world. It takes a certain grace, strength, intelligence, fearlessness, and the nerve to never take no as an answer.”
