Construction Of Awgu Old Road To Abia, Meant To Enhance Status Of The Communities – Toby Okechukwu

    The member representing Awgu, Aninri, Oji River Federal Constituency and also Chairman Committee on Works in the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Toby Okechukwu has revealed that he attracted the ongoing Old Enugu – Porthacourt road passing Agbogugu, Ihe junction to Ihe, from Ihe to Amoli junction down to Owelli passing through Ugbo, Ogugu, Nenwe, Mgbowo, Awgu to Ugwueme junction and reconnecting Awgu to Abia through the old road for the first time after thirty years.

    Honourable Okechukwu who made this disclosure recently during an exclusive chat with Leadership Scorecard, said the road contract was awarded to SETRACO for 13.933bn and the project is meant to enhance the status of the communities where the road passes in terms rural economic activities which in turn shall reduce rural-urban migration significantly.

    Speaking on the rehabilitation of Nkwo-Inyi-Akpugoeze road attracted by him; he highlighted on the economic importance of the Nkwo-Inyi-Akpugoeze road down to Etuma in Anambra State border with Enugu been reconnected. He said the contract was awarded to Anbeez Services at 2.595 billion naira and that the project will complement the giant strides of the Enugu State government on the Akpugoeze road.

    He commended the Enugu State Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his commitment to the rural and for providing a conducive atmosphere for the state representatives to operate and also thanking the Federal Government, particularly the Honourable Minister of Works for his focus on the roads sector reform and infrastructures.

    In further inquiries on Awgu-Oji River road, Leadership Scorecard gathered that the road contract was cancelled from the Master Holdings and re-awarded to SETRACO having gotten the due process certification and the Federal Executive Council has given approval recently. He however stated that the aforementioned projects are also in addition to the 9th mile – Obollo Affor road to Orokam in Benue State already awarded to RCC for 39 billion naira.
