Breaking… ENUGU GUBER: NYCN Chairman Berates Ayogu Eze’s Call for Poll Postponement

OFFICE OF THE EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN NYCN ENUGU STATE

    Press Release

My office has received with great disappointment the statement credited to APC Gubernatorial candidate, Sen Ayogu Eze calling for the removal of Enugu REC and shifting of the gubernatorial and state assembly polls in Enugu State alleging that the REC has been compromised.

This statement is hugely undemocratic and undistinguished of a Senator. With due respect to Sen. Ayogu Eze, the National Youth Council of Nigeria Enugu Chapter has followed the activities of the INEC REC in Enugu State for over 2 years and can say without missing words that he is a man of integrity and has proven it beyond every reasonable doubt before and during the presidential elections.

I have led youth leaders in Enugu State to interact with him and we saw his readiness to give Enugu people free, fair, credible and transparent elections. This actually made us to partner with the REC on voter’s education among the youth. Ayogu should be reminded that such careless and inciting statement could generate tension capable of causing election violence in the land.
Fellow compatriots in the struggle, may I remind us our resolve to shun violence and accept peace.

I wish to use this opportunity to plead with major political actors that Enugu youth cannot allow the unprecedented peace we enjoy in Enugu State courtesy of this present administration to be short lived because of mere political selfish interests of a few. We can’t go back to Egypt.
I therefore urge the INEC and indeed the general public to disregard this statement and get ready to exercise their franchise come 9th of March.

Enugu people especially the youth constituency shall come out massively to vote candidates of their choice without intimidation.

May I on behalf of the over 1.5million Enugu youths commend the coalition of the 70 political parties who in their statement yesterday endorsed the actions of the state REC and also appreciate the INEC for their neutrality during the presidential and NASS elections in Enugu State.
Enugu State is peaceful and will continue to be peaceful during and after the elections in Jesus name, Amen.

    COMR PASCHAL N UGWU
    Chairman
