AGAIN, PDP NEGLECTS SOUTH EAST, APPOINTS MINORITY LEADER FROM THE NORTH.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has ignored the request by the South East Caucus of the Senate and nominated Philip Aduda as the minority leader of the Red Chamber.

The nomination was confirmed by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan who read the letter from the party during plenary on Tuesday.

On June 2nd, the Senator representing Anambra Central, Uche Ekwunife, was nominated by South East PDP Senate Caucus to become the new Minority Leader of the Senate.

The letter was signed by the eight senators from the South East caucus including: Senator Ike Ekweremadu (Enugu West) , Senator Chimaroke Nnamani (Enugu East) , Senator T.A Orji (Abia Central), Senator Sam Egwu (Ebonyi North), Senator Obinna Ogba ( Ebonyi Central), Senator Onyewuchi Francis ( Imo East), Senator Michael Nnachi ( Ebonyi South).

The letter read in part: “Following the resignation of our senate minority leader, Senator Enyinnnaya Abaribe (Abia) from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, last week, we the under listed PDP senators of the South East zone hereby nominate Distinguished Senator Uche Lilian Ekwunife (Iyom) as a replacement for Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe as the position was zoned to the South East.

“Your Excellency, we humbly request that you kindly forward the name of Distinguished Senator Uche Lilian Ekwunife to the Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan as the Senate Minority Leader.“

The request was obviously ignored as Senator Aduda who represents the Federal Capital Territory was put forward by the party to replace Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe (Abia South) who defected to the All Progressive Grand Alliance(APGA).

With regards to the above, it is needless to campaign that the only succor the South East can get in the current political dispensation is to support a South Easterner for presidency and one who stands out amongst others is Mr. Peter Obi. He is the only hope of the South East at the moment. One can not influence what he’s not part of.
