The Chief Executive Officer of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg has launched a new platform called Threads with over 30 million users already.
The Owner of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp stated that the company is setting its sight on one billion users shortly.
Threads, which launched on Wednesday, July 5, in over 100 countries now has 30 million users around the world that have joined the new wave of social media while in the first two hours of launching the app, it had two million sign ups which increased to five million in the first four hours.
Many celebrities and public figures both locally and internationally have joined the app as well as media outlets and businesses
As of this morning , like a rapid fire, the numbers increased immensely, Zuckerberg wrote “Wow, 30 million sign-ups as of this morning. Feels like the beginning of something special, but we’ve got a lot of work ahead to build out the app.”
This is the first of its kind in 24 hours of it launched, according to report, it took Google+ 16 days, ChatGPT 40 days, Clubhouse 347 days, Instagram 355 days, Twitter 780 days, and Facebook 852 days to hit 10 million users.
Twitter currently has about 450 million users and since its takeover by Elon Musk, there have been complaints against the app announcing a view limit for tweets.
In a tweet by Musk, he said “competition is fine, cheating is not” it was earlier rumored that ex twitter staff helped create Threads but Meta denied claims in a legal letter.
“According to an SEC filing from 2013, it took Twitter four years to build the same number of users that Threads gained in a day – though Twitter grew its user base from scratch, while Threads was able to tap into the pre-existing two billion monthly users Meta says Instagram has.”
Though the look and feel of Threads are similar to those of Twitter, however, United States copyright law does not protect ideas, so for Twitter to be successful in court it would have to prove that its own intellectual property, such as programming code, was taken.
According to a report, twitter attorney Alex Spiro sent a letter to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Wednesday accusing Meta of “systematic, wilful, and unlawful misappropriation of Twitter’s trade secrets and other intellectual property” to create Threads.
“Twitter intends to strictly enforce its intellectual property rights, and demands that Meta take immediate steps to stop using any Twitter trade secrets or other highly confidential information,” the letter says.
“Twitter reserves all rights, including, but not limited to, the right to seek both civil remedies and injunctive relief without further notice.”

Threads is yet to be released in Europe because of concerns over data privacy because Meta has come under strong criticism in Europe, for its handling of personal data.
