Peter Obi Reveals How Obasanjo Led Biafran Delegation To General Gowon To Declare The War Was Over

Fifty-three years after the end of the Biafran War, Peter Obi has disclosed the major role former President Olusegun Obasanjo played in formally ending the thirty-month war and uniting Nigeria.

While speaking during a press conference, Peter Obi who is a former Governor of Anambra State, said on the 15 of January, 53 years ago, Obasanjo who was by then a Colonel in the Nigerian army led the Biafran delegation to meet with the then Nigerian military Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon to formally declare that the war was over.

Speaking further, Peter Obi said Obasanjo also informed Gowon that the soldiers who fought on the Biafran side were ready to join the Nigerian army and be deployed.

In Peter Obi’s exact words, “As we may recall, Colonel Olusegun Obasanjo as he was then led the Biafra delegation to General Gowon to declare that the war is over and that the military colleagues from Biafra have come for deployment.

It is stated to keep Nigeria one is a task that must be done and no victor, no vanquished”.
