Governor Chukwuma Soludo says individuals parading themselves as traditional Rulers without certificates of recognition from the State Government risk jail sentence.
Speaking at the Governor’s lodge Amawbia when he received the traditional Ruler of Awka Community, Obi Gibson Nwosu and some prominent Awka people, Governor Soludo who described as an abomination for one to parade himself as a traditional ruler without a certificate of recognition from the government, maintained that his administration is committed to restoring the dignity and sanctity of traditional institution in the State.
He maintained that he is committed to implementing relevant law’s governing traditional institution which was passed by the Anambra State House of Assembly and assented to by the then Governor in 2007.
Governor Soludo who said that Awka Communities holds sixty percent of what is needed for the development of Anambra State, charged the people of the Community to take the lead in the Government’s dream of making Anambra a liveable and prosperous City.
He regretted that the absence of peace in Awka Community is stampeding the speedy development of the area as a state capital and urged Ndi Awka to go back to the drawing board to ensure a lasting peace that will bring even development in the area.
The Governor who disclosed that his administration is currently building a new Government House and Governor’s lodge in Awka, pointed out that he is determined to live and work in Awka and make it look like a state capital, and urged Awka elites to close ranks and work for peace and enhanced development of the state.
Earlier in the meeting, the traditional Ruler of Awka Community, Obi Gibson Nwosu told the Governor that the essence of the visit was to thank him for the role he played in safeguarding the traditional institution in Awka last September, regretting how an impostor had been parading himself as a traditional Ruler.
Obi Nwosu during the visit commended the Governor for all his developmental accomplishments in the state and for restoring people’s confidence in governance and reassured him of the total support of Awka Community.
Among the Awka delegation were the traditional Prime Minister of Awka Community, Chief Benjamin Okoye, Professor Austin Nnonyelu, Chief Ken Ekwenugo, Chief Sabastine Anaekwe, Chief Okey Nwanna, Ken Chukwurah and Mr. Abuchi Nwozor.
The Chief of staff to the Governor Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi and the deputy Chief of staff to the governor Mr. Chinedu Nwoye were present during the visit.
