2023 GUBER QUESTION: PROSPECTS AND INTRIGUES ~ TO BE OR NOT TO BE.

By: Hon. Arthur Edeh

In few days from now, we shall be commemorating our Democracy day, with lots of feelings in the air.

It is getting larger, hotter and equally becoming interesting.

The terrain and atmosphere is getting charged up with some sense of high stakes by the day.

2023 in anticipation!

But, as a people, are we really interested in getting it right at those places which we are yet to fix?

Are we really interested to improve on the areas we have tried severally without success, which is more vital to us as a people of common Political heritage?

These are questions that really demands some definite and sincere answers.

We may have made some mistakes in the past, but the ability to trace our mistakes, and correct them, is what makes us wise and dynamic!

The intrigue and choices for 2023 is already taking the chunk of our time, but are we really ready to correct our mistakes, and improve on our prospects?

Can we as a people stand up for the right people, and show those political hawks, who is good for nothing than abracadabra style of politics?

Are we really ready to improve on the sketch we have today regarding the rural development impacts of this present administration of The Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi?

Having put down a reliable model in place as a platform for the rural dwellers to improve on their well being and economy. Because this is the only time the rural dwellers have enjoyed the optimum impact of governance!

Or, are we just interested in grabbing power with no sense of improvement?

God forbid!

For, we must not field any desperate politician, who has no plan for the masses and up to no good.

As a people, the choice we make for 2023 will determine how successful and prosperous we shall be, including establishing a better and commited political leadership for our children and generations unborn.

This is not the time for business as usual, because our political space is fast becoming a den of mischievous, desperate, lazy, and good for nothing looters: we must not give room anymore to Political buccaneers to remain in our political circle.

Everybody is warming up, both the fit and unfit, the qualified and the unqualified, the saints and demons: and it’s important for us to know that, it’s within the powers of our votes to allow any of these to emerge: which suggests we must be careful, and at the same time understudy those choices we make!

It is time for our youths, our women, and the elderly to stand up: we must stand up to show “red card” to the political Bandits who have failed us in the past; and show “green card” to those who is currently doing well; so that we can correct and sustain our political heritage and bring good governance to bear for all and sundry!

For good governance to thrive and become a culture in our society, we need and must encourage well known good spirited people, technocrats with entrepreneurial experience, and then intellectual capacity to pilot our affairs.

We need people who have some remarkable successful entrepreneurial records in their businesses, professions, likewise in their families!

We must not make the mistake of fielding people with no record of any successful venture, nor enterprise.

Someone who could not run successfully his Hotel Business, nor profession cannot be trusted to drive our economy, not those who are perfect in theory alone, but those with proven records of a practical experience.

Ndi Enugu must not make the mistake of trusting, nor wasting our votes on any confusionist.

For 2023 to look brighter, we must lookout for those who had turned sands to gold in their sojourn as businessmen, or entrepreneurs!
And we know them, and knows what they are all capable of doing, including those who have never done anything for their communities, and those who had siphoned our common wealth into their private pockets.

If we must get it right in 2023: we must adopt what I called the “Gburu Gburu phenomenon”!

  1. He is humble, even before he became the Governor.
  2. He is not desperate, even when choices were ongoing in readiness for 2015 election, he was very quiet, humble, and supportive to the government of Sullivan Chime, even till the day he was handed over the baton of leadership.
  3. He was a very successful businessman in his field of own chosen endeavour even as an oil dealer, and financial merchant.
  4. He has plans for everything he wants to do, and whenever he gets the opportunity to do it, he doesn’t fail to execute them successfully.
  5. He is resilient, which is his strong points in life. The issues, or events, or sudden events doesn’t defeat or rattle him, he has the sagacity to navigate his way out and come out smiling.
  6. He is prudent: the reason Enugu State as non-industrial, nor commerce state could survive the recession of 2016, even when many states could hardly pay their civil servants, but Gburu Gburu paid, and even paid 13th Month!
  7. He is very peaceful: His human nature as a Governor is something else, that doesn’t commonly exist. We have seen many Governors, even now and in time past, but I am yet to see a Governor who loves, and makes peace like Gburu Gburu.

The arrogance of many Governors is totally lacking in him, that’s why he’s more loved by many than his predecessors!

  1. Very strong and courageous: His doggedness and strategies during Covid-19 total lockdown was second to none. He was our eyes when we all were sleeping. He made sure that bandits, and marauders did not invade our land. His security strategy has no duplicate, which has helped us as a people to have an almost crime free State. That we can comfortably close our eyes and sleep peacefully in Enugu is because somebody chose to be awake to watch over things by himself; which I really duff my hat for him and his security aides.

They are courageously doing a lot: I really commend them for a wonderful work.

There are lots of attributes, which has made him as a good example for our future leaders to emulate.

  • We need someone as humble as Gburu Gburu.
  • We don’t need those that would ignite civil wars by hunting their political enemies.

We need very peaceful people to lead the affairs of our State.

  • Political desperados must not have a place in our lion building.
  • We need a prudent character as our Governor come 2023. We need good managers of resources, no matter how small our revenue becomes, we need someone who can manage it, by experience, not by promises. There should be no room for empty promises come 2023.
  • We need a resilient leader: someone who can actually navigate through the rough winds, and stabilize us as a people, likewise our economy.
  • And we must not vote for a Governor that would abandon his responsibilities at home for frivolous occasions elsewhere!
  • We need a successful entrepreneur who have successfully run his businesses, likewise his family.

And we need a courageous administrator, who can stategically put up measures for the state to forge ahead in terms of any form of national crisis; because that’s what Gburu Gburu has done; and we are all enjoying it today.

Therefore, we must not make the mistake that would bring regrets to us in future!

Enugu State is in the hands of God.

I remain.
