Onyima Support Group (OSG) for Gburugburu, led by Humphrey Onyima, has congratulated Governor Ifeanyi Uwuanyi and all other candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State on their landslide victories in the just concluded general elections of 2019.

The incumbent Governor Ugwuanyi who ran under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party ,PDP, polled a total of 449, 935 votes to defeat his closest rival, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Sen. Ayogu Eze who polled a total of 10, 423 votes.

Declaring Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi winner of March 9 governorship election in Enugu State by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the State Collation/Returning Officer for the governorship poll, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, the Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, stated that Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of the Peoples Democratic Party won in all the 17 Local Government Areas of the State.

Gov. Ugwuanyi won the election with 95.54 percent of valid votes cast, while the APC candidate polled 2.21 percent.

In a press release, shortly after the results were declared and officially ratified by the Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Onyima described Ugwuanyi’s landslide victory as “a triumph for democracy and to the peace-loving governor of Enugu State.” According to Onyima, the re-election of Ugwuanyi for a second term in office affirmed not only the verdict of the PDP in Enugu State but also, the overwhelming acceptance of the governor among the people of the state.

“This victory is not just for Governor Ugwuanyi but, more significantly, a victory for peace, equitable development and uncommon transformation in Enugu State.” We believe it is a motivation for the governor to do more and, also, a veritable launch-pad into post-election activities in the state. “The three senatorial districts in Enugu State have unanimously re-elected Ugwuanyi for a second term in office because he has justified their decision to elect him in 2015,” Onyima said.

Onyima further hailed the victory of ‘Gburugburu’ as a victory for Ndi-Enugu, who stood up against all forms of political intimidation, high-handedness and wanton desperation, to show resilience, courage and undying commitment to the incontrovertible democratic principles of the rule of law, the sanctity of the electoral process, as well as the integrity and independence of the electoral umpire.

The OSG commended the security agencies and the INEC for the conduct of peaceful, free, fair and credible elections in Enugu State and thanked ‘Ndi Enugu’ who came out en masse to ensure that their voices ring out and their votes duly count.
