9-Year-Old DJ Thrills Guests, As Nigerian Deejays Held First National Awards In Abuja

It was a night of fanfare and sense of pride that comes with dignity of labour, as the umbrella body of disk jockeys (DJs) in Nigeria locked down the city of Abuja, holding the first ever Nigerian Deejays Awards to recognise members of the society who at their various endeavours have contributed in raising the bar of entertainment in the country.

The main hall of the popular Chida International Hotels, the venue of the award was exhilarating and electrifying as who is who in the country’s entertainment sector gathered in the beautifully decorated venue for the long awaited event. It was a day to come in contact with the known youngest deejay of the night, a female DJ Baby Gold, who is just nine years old.

In his welcome address, the National President of Deejay Association of of Nigeria (DJAN) Mr. Christian Onyebuchi Edeh known by the stage name, DJ Perfect International, expressed satisfaction that the award ceremony despite being the first edition turned out extremely successful and in the lifetime of his administration as the president.

He expressed gratitude to his colleagues in the industry across the country for their support which culminated into the massive success recorded.

According to him, irrespective of how good a situation could be, there is always room for improvement, noting that the second edition coming up next year will be even more successful.

Highlighting the role of deejays in our social life, he said, “DJ’s are the most essential part of any occasion as their absence will make any occasion boring and unenjoyable.

“The DJs through their music adds so much substance and vigour to any occasion no matter the events. Hence, we thought it wise to gather here today to give honour to whom honour is due and to celebrate ourselves in special dimension.”

On his own part, the Project Consultant and the CEO of Leadership Scorecard Magazine, Mr. Humphrey Onyima expressed happiness that deejays have come to recognise their crucial roles in the society which necessitated the award of recognition.

He said, “Today is indeed a great day in the lives of members of Djan nationwide. Today’s awardees are men and women of caliber who have contributed immeasurably towards the growth of Deejaying in Nigeria.”

Notable DJs at event were; DJ’s Neptune, the legendary American DJ Dona Dee, cool, Humility, grande fingers,symptoms, Vicky Lee, Benny G, Stan, Nani , Valakan, Burna , Scratch, Baby gold, Ceekk, John, Matrix, DJ Trish and so much more.

The Edo, Lagos, Oyo,Kaduna, state chapters were recognized for their exceptional performance and contributions. KK Ogungbe (Kennis music ) was honoured with entertainment icon of all times.

Best DJ of the Year 2024 award went to DJ Cuppy who was represented at the event. DJ Neptune won the Most Famous DJ of the Year 2024, while entertainment personality of the year was won by Sydney Sparrow the governor of PMAN in FCT.

There was also special recognition as the Director General of the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), Dr. John O. Asein was awarded the Best Copyright Creative Icon of the Year 2024. The Most Professional DJ of the Year 2024 was won by DJ Nani.

Highlight of the event was the unveiling of the latest edition of the Leadership Scorecard magazine, featuring Who-Is-Who among the Nigerian DJs, the Music and Entertainments Icons at large.
