How Tinubu Settled The G-5 Governors, Gave Makinde ₦50bn for Ibadan Airport Project — Says Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, says President Bola Tinubu provided approximately ₦50 billion to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for the expansion and upgrade of Ibadan Airport.

Wike made the claim recently during an appearance on TVC News’ Journalists’ Hangout. He was responding to suggestions that he was the only member of the former Peoples Democratic Party G5 governors to benefit from Tinubu’s administration.
According to the minister, the President supported Makinde despite their political differences.

“The President has also extended his hand of support to the governor of Oyo State by providing funds for him to expand Oyo Airport with a whopping sum of ₦50 billion,” Wike said.

Wike also pointed to former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and former Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, whom he said had received ambassadorial appointments to Spain and Greece, respectively.

He argued that these examples disproved claims that he alone had benefited.

The G5 was made up of Wike, Makinde, Ikpeazu, Ugwuanyi and former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom. The group opposed the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, during the 2023 general election and supported Tinubu’s candidacy.
